What encourages forced labor?

Outsourcing can promote use of forced labor

  • Place an order to a supplier by leaving a very short time of execution in view of its capabilities increases the risk that the supplier subcontracts the work to factories or individuals who do not meet the same standards as supplier
  • Negotiate low prices so that the supplier is itself forced to pull down the price of raw materials needed can cause a ripple effect on the supply chain and increase the likelihood of use of forced labor in the production of raw materials
  • If companies do not ensure compliance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, extreme poverty can lead workers in situations where they find themselves in forced labor
  • Corruption services for migrant workers. Cf corruption and forced labor
