Working time and overtime

    • One of the main challenges is to limit excessive working hours and to guarantee resting periods and appropriate recovery times, including a daily rest and paid annual leave, in order to protect workers' health and safety.
    • For many years now, those concerns are subjected to a wide range of international labour standards regarding working time.
    • Globalization and the increased competition that comes out of it, added to IT development and new means of communication, but also considering our new ways of consumption of goods and services in a 24/7 economy, have disrupted production methods and work organization.
    • Those changes led to decentralisation, individualisation and to a growing diversification of working hours, as well as growing tensions between companies' demands and workers needs and preferences regarding working hours.
